Turo vs Buying a car (12 months stay)

Hi y'all!

I just moved to Austin from The Netherlands and plan to stay for a year. Living in a good neighborhood and downtown is a 20-minute bike ride away so I wasn't planning to buy a car, but everyone keeps telling me it might be better to have one just in case (and especially with the upcoming hot weather of summer). Would long-term renting via Turo be a better option rather than buying a car (and only using it for 12 months max)?

Thanks!
