All the nice luxury apartments are in SoMa, Rincon Hill, South Beach or Mission Bay. Is there a catch?

I've been searching for weeks for apartments. The only ones that have all the amenities I want :

• Laundry unit
• Dishwasher
• Parking

are all in SoMa and a few in the Rincon Hill, South Beach and Mission Bay area.

I'm moving from a relatively quiet luxury apartment in San Jose and want something similar. I've looked at apartments in the sunset and richmond area but they are all very old and dilapidated with only half the amenities. Same thing with the Marina and Russian Hill areas. And the nice ones there are like way out of my budget.

Is there a catch. I am visiting these areas this weekend but from past experience, one day is never enough to truly gauge whether you'd like an area.
