TLDR: 2 weeks of worsening mucosa ?peeling in mouth and can’t get into Dr for another week. What could it be?
30th October- noticed some white small blisters on insides of both lips. Otherwise well.
31st October- blisters started popping, skin peeling away from inside of lips.
1st Nov- doctor visit (not our regular doctor), swabs done for herpes simplex virus and enterovirus, both negative.
Blisters went away but inside of mouth still looked raw.
8th Nov- 39 deg fever, slept all morning. Appeared to have a viral infection. Runny nose/cough. Got back into regular doctor, discussed results above and ordered more swabs of inside lip. Still raw and corners of mouth looks like angular cheilitis. Still eating and drinking just a little less than usual but manageable. Advised to come back if worsens.
Recovered from apparent virus.
12 November- noticed top layer of skin peeling from tongue. Some discomfort when eating but still able to eat some milder foods and still well otherwise. Called doctors surgery and let them know about tongue and got on waitlist. Haven’t been able to get an appt, have one for 22nd Nov. got a text from pathology just tested positive to rhinovirus.
Today- no luck getting in to dr again. Eating a bit less than usual, still some fruit and icy poles. A bit grumpy/ tired. Drinking water. Tongue looks raw on the tip, clearly tell where top layer has peeled away. Worse in corners of mouth. Inside lips look raw. Called on call nurse, advised as he’s well can wait until next Friday appointment. Notes from same were marked as ‘oral thrush’. Does not look like thrush I think.
What I need help with- could this be something specific I should be aware of? I will take him to the children’s hospital if his condition worsens but I’d like to know what this could be so I can advocate for him if need be.
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read/ view.
