What do you wish your parents knew about your ADHD growing up?

My 5 year old was just diagnosed with ADHD. He is doing well academically in school and OK socially, So we are not medicating yet. He struggles with changes in routine and has been having a hard week with an upcoming trip, a new dog, and some family loss. We went to hockey today and he yelled at his coaches and knocked over two other kids, so I removed him and we left practice. His brain goes 0 to 60 and I feel like he “sees red” and almost can’t hear me in those moments. I try to sit with him and talk him through (or just keep him safe) but I don’t know if I should do more. He tells me he just doesn’t think sometimes and he is feeling a lot of emotions. He is usually sorry after the fact (but sometimes is totally convinced he did nothing wrong) and I try not to punish him (other than if he’s hurting someone or being unkind, then the activity stops). I just want to know the other perspective and try to help my boy.
